Who doesn’t love summer camp? Thirteen-year-old Erica wanted to give back to a place that gave her so much: Camp Lookout in Rising Fawn, Georgia. Having experienced the joy and adventure first-hand, it was an easy decision to update the old and worn carnival games used every summer for her Girl Scout Silver Award project.
Over 120 third and fourth graders attend the carnival every year. Having attended the week-long summer camp since first grade, she knew the games needed a complete renovation. After gaining inspiration from Pinterest and planning with the director of the camp, she revived the following three games: Pool Noodle Ring Toss, Kerplunk, and Bucket Ball.
During this project, she learned how to use power tools, created a budget, priced out materials, developed detailed lesson plans, and trained staff members on how to put together and play the games. Erica gained the confidence to be both a leader and teacher.

This was not Erica’s original planned project; her first one got shut down unexpectedly. But like a true Girl Scout, she overcame the challenges and completed her Silver Award by serving Camp Lookout.
Finished in June 2019, the current ninth grader reports that the project has been a success. While viewing photos of the happy campers enjoying the fruits of her labor, Erica knows the games will be sustainable and appreciated for years to come!
